The humectants (water soluble) are found in the first step, the cooling blue gel that gifts skin with a direct hydration boost. Multi-weight hyaluronic acid has the capacity to hold 1,000 times its own weight in water by drawing H₂O molecules to itself like a magnet. Glycerin, a natural humectant, is famed for its water attracting properties. NMF including urea, amino acids and sodium PCA work to bind and hold water in the stratum corneum, creating a reservoir of moisture in the upper layers of the skin.

Emollients (lipid/oil-based) and occlusives (water repelling ingredients) are combined in the second step which helps to “secure” the moisture from step one and improve ongoing hydration. Ceramides, squalane and linoleic acid provide lipid nourishment to the skin barrier regulating cell function and improving the skin’s natural ability to retain water. Primary occlusive dimethicone forms a breathable shield at the skin’s surface which helps to prevent evaporation and therefore transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Together, the perfectly optimised H.E.O. ratio is able to inject moisture into the skin’s layers and lock it in to prolong the hydrating benefits.
