We are all guilty of taking beautiful, youthful skin for granted. Gone are the days of raging hormones and the dreaded surprise zit always popping up at the worst possible moment. And of course, the idea of crows feet and frown lines seem a distant future. The late-night coffee and sugar indulgences, cocktails and all that sun-baking probably haven’t caught up with you… yet – at least not in a way that a bit of concealer can’t fix. Between the ages of 18-20 years, our fibroblast re-division ceases. Fibroblasts are responsible for producing the three proteins in the dermis, which are Collagen, Elastin and Hyaluronic acid. Fibroblasts redivide and create new fibroblasts to keep on top of their production requirements. The number of fibroblast cells you have remaining in your 20’s are solely responsible for producing collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid going forward. Yikes!!
Due to fibroblast re-division ceasing in your 18-20’s, from the age of 20 onwards, collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production levels decline by 2% each year!!!
