With the winter months fast approaching and the weather turns cold and humidity levels drop, keeping your skin hydrated might become difficult.
We all start to experience that tight dry and sometimes even itchy skin.
What is dry skin?
When your skin doesn’t have enough protective oils which help maintain our barrier, moisture escapes from it. And when there isn’t enough water in the outermost layer of your skin, it becomes dry. This effect can intensify during the winter when humidity is low.
Other causes of dry skin can be.
1. Sickness.
2. Medications.
3. Overuse/Improper use of products.
4. Ageing.
5. Skin diseases.
How do we treat dry skin?
1. Avoid long hot showers as too much washing in hot water can strip the protective oils from your skin, leaving it dry and uncomfortable.
2. Do not overuse soap and go for fragrance free options that are less irritating to the skin.
3. Try to eat a well-balanced diet that includes essential fatty acids.
4. Hydrate from the inside too, drink plenty of water.
5. Moisturising morning & night is going to be critical in combatting dryness.
6. Gently exfoliating helps to shed the top layer of dead skin cells and allows other products to penetrate.
7. Masks are also that perfect intense hydration surge.
Moisturising!
We should always be moisturising all year round, but now coming into the colder months, it might be time to revisit your skincare regime, especially your Moisturiser. What was working great for summer might not be suitable for winter.
Every single type of skin needs hydration, even oily skin. We are so fortunate to have the choice we do in terms of skincare. Have a skin consultation to make sure you are choosing the right Moisturiser.
Exfoliating
We all need to be exfoliating to rid the skin of those dead cells that sit on the surface and make the skin look dull and lifeless.
There are two types of exfoliators.
Chemical exfoliators are acids that react with the skin, removing built-up layers of dead cells and excess oil that can cause dull skin and blemishes.
Physical exfoliators use ingredients, or a tool, that physically scrubs old, dead cells from the surface of your skin. ... Most commonly, these ingredients are ground down natural products such as nuts, stones, plants, and plant extracts.
Masks!
Masks are the perfect intense treatment that we can do at home to feed the skin with nutrients.
It is so important to use a good quality mask that has the ingredients that will benefit your skin.
Hyaluronic acid for that dry, dehydrated and sensitive skin, Vitamin C for brightening pigmented skin types and Clay masks for purifying.
